The club

Registered on 6 September 1909, Levante are the oldest football club in Valencia, a decade older than Valencia CF. The current club dates from a 1939 merger with Gimnástico FC, which brought the blue-and-claret colours and the Granota (frogs) nickname. Their best top-flight finish is sixth, in 2011–12, which took them into Europe for the first time. The women's section is among the strongest in Spain and was one of the founding forces of the professional game here.
