The club
Founded on 14 June 1913 in Santander and a founder member of LaLiga in 1929. Racing finished second in 1930–31, still their best season. They spent fourteen years between the second and third divisions from 2012, nearly disappearing entirely during a wage crisis, and won promotion back to LaLiga for 2026–27. El Sardinero holds 22,222, and Racing came up as the most open attacking side in the division.
Things worth knowing
- In January 2014, unpaid players walked to the centre circle at kick-off in a Copa del Rey tie and refused to play; the referee abandoned the match after a minute.
- The first Spanish club to wear a sponsor's name on its shirt, Teka, on 27 December 1981, against Real Madrid.
- Beat both Barcelona and Real Madrid home and away in the 1935–36 season.
- Scored 99 goals in 30 games to win promotion in 1950.
