The ground

The current ground opened in 1988, replacing an earlier El Sardinero on the same site that dated to 1913. It holds 22,222 in the seaside district the club has always called home. Racing were a founder member of LaLiga in 1929 and returned to it in 2026 after fourteen years between the second and third divisions.

Things worth knowing

  • The capacity is 22,222, a coincidence the club has never bothered to correct.
  • The original ground on this site opened in 1913, the year the club was founded.
  • In January 2014 Racing's unpaid players walked to the centre circle here and refused to play a Copa del Rey tie.
  • Sits a few hundred metres from El Sardinero beach.
