Estadi Mallorca Son Moix
Palma, Balearic Islands · RCD Mallorca
The only top-flight ground in the Balearics, and an away trip that requires a flight.
The ground
Opened in 1999 in Palma and holding 25,736 after the removal of its athletics track. Mallorca moved here from the Lluís Sitjar. It is the only ground in Spanish top-flight football that visiting supporters cannot reach by road, which shapes both away followings and the club's travel costs.
Things worth knowing
- The only LaLiga ground that away fans have to fly or sail to.
- Originally built with an athletics track, later removed to bring the stands closer to the pitch.
- Mallorca beat Real Madrid here in the 2003 Copa del Rey run that produced the club's only major trophy.
- Renamed several times as sponsors changed; Son Moix has stuck locally throughout.
