Estadio de La Cartuja
Built for athletics, used for finals, and Betis's temporary home until the Villamarín reopens.
The ground
Opened in 1999 on Cartuja Island, the Expo 92 site, for the World Athletics Championships. For most of its life it was a neutral venue, Copa del Rey finals, Spain internationals, a Davis Cup tie, rather than anyone's home. Real Betis moved in while the Benito Villamarín is rebuilt, which has given it a weekly crowd for the first time.
Things worth knowing
- Built as an Olympic stadium for a Seville bid that never happened, then used for the 1999 World Athletics Championships.
- Has hosted multiple Copa del Rey finals as a neutral ground.
- There are no bars or restaurants nearby, it sits outside the city centre, so fans gather at the ground itself.
- A provisional 2030 World Cup venue alongside the Villamarín, giving Seville two candidate grounds.
