Abanca-Balaídos
Vigo, Galicia · RC Celta de Vigo
Galicia's biggest matchday, being rebuilt in phases around a live season.
The ground
Opened on 30 December 1928 and rebuilt in stages ever since, most recently in a phased programme carried out while Celta kept playing. It hosted three matches at the 1982 World Cup. The ground sits close enough to the Citroën plant that the factory sponsored the shirt for thirty years.
Things worth knowing
- Hosted three group matches at the 1982 World Cup.
- The rebuild has been done stand by stand, with Celta playing through it rather than relocating.
- The Citroën factory that sponsored Celta from 1985 to 2016 is within walking distance.
- A provisional 2030 World Cup venue.
