The club

Founded on 18 March 1932. Zaragoza have won the Copa del Rey six times and the Cup Winners' Cup in 1995, and finished second in LaLiga in 1974–75. La Romareda is being rebuilt with 2030 World Cup hosting in mind, but the club dropped to Primera Federación in 2025–26, its first spell in the third tier since 1949. La Romareda's rebuild is the clearest case of a city betting infrastructure money on a tournament seven years away.

Things worth knowing

  • Nayim's 120th-minute lob from near the halfway line beat David Seaman to win the 1995 Cup Winners' Cup final against Arsenal.
  • Relegated to the third tier in 2025–26 for the first time since 1949, while the city rebuilds its stadium for a possible World Cup.
  • Lost 10–1 to Athletic Club in 1951–52, one of the heaviest defeats in LaLiga history.
