Estadio Nuevo Arcángel
Córdoba, Andalusia · Córdoba CF
Córdoba's ground on the Guadalquivir, and one of the least documented matchdays in Spain for English readers.
The ground
Opened in 1993 on the bank of the Guadalquivir, replacing the old El Arcángel on roughly the same site. It holds 21,822 and has been expanded twice. Córdoba have spent most of the ground's life in the second and third tiers, with a single season in LaLiga in 2014–15, and the ground regularly fills well beyond what the division would suggest.
Things worth knowing
- Sits on the Guadalquivir, the same river that gives Real Betis their name upstream in Seville.
- Córdoba's only LaLiga season since the ground opened was 2014–15, which ended in relegation with 20 points.
- The club drew five-figure crowds in the third tier, attendance that would put them mid-table in the second division.
- There is almost no English-language matchday writing about this ground, which is exactly why it is worth doing.
