The ground

Opened in 1970 and holding 14,624, Montilivi is among the smallest grounds ever to host Champions League football. Girona qualified for the competition by finishing third in 2023–24, which forced a scramble to bring the ground up to UEFA standards. It remains a modest municipal stadium in a city of 100,000.

Things worth knowing

  • One of the smallest grounds ever to stage a Champions League match.
  • Girona beat Barcelona 4–2 here in May 2024 to secure that qualification.
  • Owned by the city council rather than the club, like many Spanish municipal grounds.
  • Capacity is roughly one seventh of the Camp Nou, 100km down the coast.
